"You just go on your nerve. If someone’s chasing you down the street with a knife you just run, you don’t turn around and shout, “Give it up! I was a track star for Mineola Prep.” That’s for the writing poems part." -Frank O’Hara, Personism: A Manifesto // It’s for the cooking part, too.

My everything challah rolls got real fluffy and now they look like deli rolls but is that a bad thing? No. Who doesn’t want a fluffy challah 💁🏽‍♀️
When the picky eater of the house says she’s not eating home today, I break out things she doesn’t like. 😂 For instance, fire roasted diced tomatoes (huh?), coconut milk, lentils, and heavily spiced anything. This curry came together quickly (though I first blended the fire roasted tomatoes cause lately I’m not into chunks). These ingredients have been sitting around for quite some time...I was happy to use them up. Is there an ingredient collecting dust in your cabinet? Let’s figure out what to do with them today.
On Sundays @chakra.conn and I turn to writing prompts. Last session we discussed what our muses looked like, what are it’s needs, personalities, where they reside. It was really all about our creative energies and how we are, or aren’t, feeding them. Since covid hit, I felt like I had to sacrifice the muse in order to keep safe and others safe. The only time I hopped on the train/bus was when I had to see my neurologist (yup, not even to see my boyfriend). So I stopped going to @unsqgreenmarket which was something I did 3x a week right before heading to work. And I lost my job so talking to 1st-6th graders about the day’s haul was no longer the thing that made my days. I’ve been feeling all-around drained and sad lately (like almost everyone else) and I realize putting my mental/emotional health first the way I did my physical must happen (safely, double masked, distanced). It rained yesterday and in the morning I was like, welllllllll...guess I’m staying in! 😅 20 minutes later I found the umbrella, got dressed, left, made 👏my 👏day. Sweet cherry tomatoes brought to you by our hydroponics farm. Red cabbage microgreens, carrots, watermelon radish, onions from @norwichmeadowsfarm. Lion’s Mane from @gails_farm 💜 and tomorrow, thanks to @sophia_roe, I’m finally cutting two years worth of hair. Are you feeding your creative energy during these difficult times? Are you even well acquainted to that part of you that needs you to be an active listener, feeler, doer? Let’s talk. I also came home with an ashwaghanda drink for the occasion from @furnacecreekfarm
Torcetti coated in a sweet winter squash sauce with hot Italian sausage: my idea of cozy. I made this a few times already on the days I wanted to be less involved in the kitchen. You begin by browning the crumbled sausage, deglazing with white wine, adding in a little chicken stock, then honeynut squash or other. Cook til the squash collapses and becomes the sauce. Stir in al dente pasta. SO GOOD.
Lucy Rose is one apple I can’t get myself to cook or bake with. Just put it my mouth 🤣 I’m entering these beauties in the #produceisbeautifulcollabs hosted by @produceisbeautiful and @allisondavidphotography 💜
Roasted atlas carrots and baby beets, avocado, little gem leaves, grilled olives, red onion. Later dressed with a carrot vinaigrette. This was my dinner last night because I’ve eaten so much fried foods these last few days. From pirozhkis, to fried chicken, to leftovers of both 😅 I actually MISSED salads. Any good eats you’re missing? Doesn’t have to be healthy. Zero judgement here.
